WHO:

The ToonSeum- The ToonSeum is Pittsburgh’s museum of Comic and Cartoon art located in the Cultural District, Downtown. One of only three such museums in the country, the mission of the ToonSeum is to celebrate the art of cartooning. Our goal is to promote a deeper appreciation of the cartoonists and their work through hands-on workshops, community outreach, cartoon-oriented educational programming, and exhibitions of original cartoon art.

WHAT:

Ka-Blam! is our annual fundraiser supporting the ToonSeum. This past year, Pittsburgh took center stage as the main shooting location for “Batman: Dark Knight Rises”. The movie premiers on Friday,

July 20th, 2012. On Saturday, July 21st, 2012, we will highlight Pittsburgh’s time in the spotlight with this year’s theme of “Gotham Nights”. At the ToonSeum, our exhibit “Pittsburgh as Gotham” will be on display, highlighting all of our local ties to the “Batman” legacy, both on the big and small screens. Our fundraiser will play off of this theme, highlighting all of Pittsburgh’s ties to the movie industry over the years, with a special focus on the Batman franchise.

Pittsburgh’s very own Jim Krenn, our honorary chair and special guest, will host an early VIP reception, and a silent auction will run throughout the night, with items displayed at the main Pierce Gallery location beginning at 8pm. Our silent auction items will include one of a kind works from both locally and nationally known artists, collections of rare comics, Travel vouchers and accommodations for highly desired destinations, locally themed gift baskets, and much more. There will be entertainment in the form of a DJ or small band, and local vendors will be set up to supply food and refreshments Ticket sales and proceeds from the Silent Auction go tobenefit the ToonSeum.
